September 29 2014

Hellooooo!!!
Another wonderful week in North Las Vegas!
We actually see some pretty crazy things go down in our area.
Since I'll be out of here in just a few weeks I will share some of the
craziness.
There have been 2 murders, a man hunt, schools were on lock down until
6pm, CSI in real life, a mob of skaters running down the road, a giant
hip hop dance routine preformed in a driveway, bullet holes in cars,
and many more crazy "This is North' moments... Nothing to be worried
about though.

Monday we had a YSA in our ward come out with us. His name is Logan
and he just got home a couple months ago from serving his mission in
Africa. We met a few people with him and we were able to have a lesson
with the Todd's, their less active/ part-member family neighbors. IT
was great we talked about prayer and how no matter what our worry or
question is it is important to our Heavenly Father! I know that that
is so true! We saw a few other families and had great messages with
them as well.

Tuesday we had another great district meeting about the power of
receiving revelation through the Book of Mormon! We were able to apply
what we learn immediately after as we met with Sister Mundy. She was
struggling with how much longer she should trust in the Lord or if she
need to do more on her own to solve her problems. She asked point
blank where in the Book of Mormon was her answer! The Spirit
immediately brought to my mind Mosiah 24: 10-18. We read that together
verse by verse and she received by the Spirit exactly what the Lord
wanted her to know. It was powerful! I love the Book of Mormon. We
also had lunch with Sister Holyoak! She loves us and wanted to  have
us over again! It was great! Sister Olive came out with us to see our
investigator Angel. Sister Olive helped Angel to pray. It was so
sweet! Later that night we had Brother Fonatno come to a lesson with
Brother Garcia. We talked about The Gospel of Jesus Christ. We
compared sin to a pit and the gospel to a ladder that is firm and
constant. Christ is there to help us up each rung of the ladder. We
can get out of any pit with Christ and His gospel!

Wednesday we were on exchanges! I stayed in our area with Sister
Tumanovu, form Samoa. It was great to have her here. We met with a guy
named Brent! He was taught by the Elders. He knew so much about church
history and the Book of Mormon. But after talking with him for a few
minutes it sounded like he had got into some anti literature and had
some false information presented to him. We were able to clear up some
concerns. We set up to come back and begin teaching him again. He has
a lot of potential! We also met the Mixon's, a  less active/
part-member family in our ward. They were in tears as we shared a
message with them about our Heavenly Father's love. We are going to
work with them and bring them back to the fold! Our last appointment
was with Gloria. It was so sad, because she and the girls love coming
to church, but won't read or keep any of their commitments. We can't
keep working with them if they aren't doing their part. Usuallly
coming to church is the hardest thing for people, but for them it is
just doing everything else.

Thursday both Sister Swerdfeger and I woke up not feeling very good! I
had a bad headache and she had a cold. We were able to go to a few
appointments, but Sister Swerd was just getting more and more sick. We
met with a  less active/ part-member family, the Demille's. Brother
Demille was so sweet and we talked a little bit with him, his wife on
the other hand was pretty rude. But we met people who are rude to us
everyday, so it doesn't really bother us much. Then we met with
Lakenna, who was taught by other missionaries. We read 2 Nephi 32 with
her and had a great discussion. She will hopefully be able to meet
with us more consistently  We had a really late dinner appointment
with a part-member family. The grandma wants us to teach her about the
gospel. We have an appointment set up for next week and we are so
excited!

Friday Sister Swerd was really sick! Brother Demille called us to
apologize for his wife and said she would love to have us over again.
He said she was just having a bad day, but thanked us over and over
again for coming over. It was really nice. We were in most the day and
I read a lot of the Book of Mormon. I am trying to finish it before I
finish my full time mission. I have to read 8 pages a day! It is going
great! The Spirit is so strong has I read from each page. We went out
at night to a few appointments and were cut in a crazy flash flood! It
was terrible! We were soaked and no one opened the door./ Even people
we had appointments with, whom we knew were home.

Saturday we met with a few different people but the highlight was the
General Relief Society Broadcast! I loved it! It was so inspiring! I
can't wait to attend the Temple more often then every 3 months, it is
just not enough! I love the analogy shared by President Dieter F.
Uchdorf. He shared that Heavenly Father pours blessings on us like
rain constantly, but some of us but an umbrella up to block them out.
We do that through disobedience and pride. I never want to block out
Heavenly Father's blessings!! Not ever!

Sunday we had the annual Primary Program for both of our wards! It was
so great! I really did feel the Spirit as each child shared their
testimony of Families. Even through the hilarious children screaming
the primary songs I still could feel the Savior's love. It was great!

I am so excited for General Conference this next week! I want to
personally invite all of you to write down a few questions, pray about
them, and then take notes during General Conference and  see your
questions be answered through the Spirit and the words of the
Prophet's and Apostles. I know that Heavenly Father answers those who
seek His direction. You can listen to Conference on lds.org and at
local LDS Church Buildings. I know that you will feel the Spirit!

I am so grateful for this gospel and to be able to share it with
others! I love you all! I hope you will feel and see Heavenly Father's
blessings this week!

Love,
Sister Davis

Family and Friends!

My weekly letters will be ending soon and I can't hardly believe it! I
celebrated my 17 month mark as a missionary and representative of
Jesus Christ. I have no idea where the time has gone. It seems like
only yesterday I was in the Missionary Training Center. I am so
grateful for the time the Lord has given me to share my love of the
gospel with my brothers and sisters!

Monday was Sister Pence's last day in the area. We went around to say
a few goodbyes. It is always good to hear how much the wards will miss
her. She did amazing work here and I am forever grateful to have had
the opportunity to serve with her!

Tuesday I went to the mission office to pick up Sister Swerdfeger! She
is 23 years old and she is from Colorado. She's really great! We
really hit the ground running! There is lots to do here and not a lot
of time for me to be apart of it! We met with the Knauls and invited
them to read the scriptures daily with each other. I just know how
much this will bless and strengthen their family! I hope they will
really be committed to testing it out! We also had dinner with the
Holyoak's who aren't very active in our ward. They were really great
and we made plans to go back and help Sister Holyoak make freezer jam
out of fresh peaches! She has a ton of peaches! We then taught the
Young Women at Mutual about Missionary Work! It was so fun! We role
played the "Willing & Brief" Invitation with them and talked about why
it is so important that they share this precious and restored gospel
with others!

Wednesday we had our weekly District Meeting! It was the most
spiritual District Meeting I had ever been apart of! Elder Keogan
asked us to go in the chapel and pray. He asked us to give thanks and
then ask if the gospel was really Restored and if Joseph Smith really
was called to be a Prophet. As I sat in the chapel I was overwhelmed
with the Spirit. It was incredible. We walked silently back into the
classroom and on the bored was this question "What would your life be
like if the gospel had not been Restored?" We wrote in our journals
our feelings and our answer to that question. There was not a dry eye.
I came to have a great understanding on why we must share this with
everyone. Because whether our brothers and sisters realize it or not
they are missing so much direction and peace because they do not know
of the Restoration. I want everyone to know of the peace that is felt
and the comfort that comes from knowing and living the Restored
Gospel! Later on we had on of the young women out with us. Dani was
only with us for an hour but we had 3 lessons with her and none of
them were planned. The Lord knew she was with us and so he put people
in our path to listen and pray with. It was powerful! A great day to
celebrate my 17th month mark!

Thursday we had a lot of members and investigators cancel on us last
minute. That always makes for an interesting day. We were able to find
two new investigators because we had Sister Montandon out with us and
the Lord always blesses us when we have members with us! It is such a
blessing! He has the greater plan and places us exactly where we need
to be!

Friday we went to the mission office to pick up our new phone. It
turned out to be a big ordeal. But we finally got our phone fixed and
we were on our way back to North. We had some cool member lessons with
members that we hadn't met with before. We also had dinner with the
Smiths. We had been trying to teach Brother Smith, but I don't think
he is ready yet. He comes to church and helps out with the Scout
program, but that is about all he wants to do right now. We are still
praying for them!

Saturday I was able to go to Rylee Gardner's Baptism in Boulder
City!!! It was great! Sydni came and picked me up from North and we
spent a few hours together between the drive time there and back and
the actual Baptism. I was able to see the Gardner gang which was
awesome! Lou was at the Baptism! I miss seeing him so it was such a
blessing that he came! I also was able to see the Lopans! They were
pretty surprised to see me! I loved that I could be down in Boulder
again! I can't wait to really go back and visit!

Sunday President and Sister Snow came to speak at one of our wards! It
sure was good to have them there! They are very different from the
Neiders, but they are exactly what is needed here! We went to the Why
I Believe Fireside in the evening. It was so good to see all my old
mission friends as well as members from my old wards! They are so near
and dear to my heart. Everyone of them! Lou was there, so I saw him
two days in a row! What a blessing! I've really come to the
realization that I came on a mission at this time in my life so I
could meet Lou and share the gospel with him. Many people have made an
impact on my life here and I know I have touched their lives as well.
But I was transferred to Boulder City and met Lou. Then 2 days after
his Baptism almost 4 months later I was reassigned to another area. I
was in Boulder City for him. I will be forever grateful that my
Heavenly Father allowed me to teach Lou and to be taught by Lou as
well!

This is Christ Restored Gospel! I am so grateful for the past 17
months. I know I have changed and learned and experienced so much!
More than I could have anywhere else! This mission and experience has
shaped the rest of my life! What joy this gospel brings! Enjoy it!
Share it! Be better because of it!

Love,
Sister Davis

Hello Family and Friends!!

The end of another Transfer has come! What a crazy week it has been!

Monday Sister Baudino took Sister Pence and I shopping! We each got a
couple skirts and a new pair of shoes! She has been a member for just
about 18months and she loves the missionaries! We also played lazer
tag with out district at a place called Flippin Out! It was way fun!
PDay activities are the best! Later on we met with Brother Garcia, he
is a recent convert. We have been teaching him the new member lessons.
He is hilarious! We taught him the Plan of Salvation and ended up
talking a lot about missionary work! It was great! He is trying t
reach out and share the gospel with his neighbor! It amazes me how
many people really are looking and are prepared to receive the
fullness of the gospel! We also met with Jandy and Anthony, they area
recent converts as well. They were baptized only a couple weeks ago.
The gospel has really changed every aspect of their lives! We were
able to also go to a Family Home Evening with the Fontano Family! I
just love them! It is always are great experience to see how different
families interact and work with one another! I have learned so much
about The Family here on my mission.

Tuesday we met with Terry and read in the Book of Mormon with her! She
loves the Book of Mormon! She told us she had been praying to learn
about other children of God and their experiences with Him. She has
read and heard the Bible stories so many times! She wanted more and
now that she has found it she couldn't be more excited!! We decided to
stop by mutual tonight and see Janise! They were doing a sewing
project and were short leaders so we stayed and helped Janise and her
sister Olivia sew cases for their journals and personal progress
books! I am so grateful that my mom taught me how to sew a straight
line and work a sewing machine! It was great to be able to help these
girls sew!

Wednesday Sister Pence woke up in the middle of the night with severe
ear pain. We took her to the Urgent Care and after waiting 4 hours to
be seen she was able to get a prescription for her ear infection.
Brother Harms gave her a blessing and then he and his wife took us out
to IHOp for lunch. It made me miss going to IHOP with my grandparents
in Atascocita! It was a great treat after such a crazy doctors visit.

Thursday we saw Robert and read in the Book of Mormon with him! He is
reading more and more everyday and applying it to his life. It is
awesome! We then met with Sister Mundy! She is so excited about the
things she is reading a learning. We read with her a discussed a few
verses in Alma 1. She is really changing and growing in the gospel! We
drove down to the mission office after lunch to try and fix our cell
phone. The mic isn't working and it is so hard to hear people. The
couldn't do anything for us, but they did order a new phone! What a
blessing!

Friday we had an emergency exchange with a couple sisters in our zone!
We met with Terry again and taught her the Plan of Salvation! She
loved it! Everyone always does! It is a perfect plan! It is our Father
in Heaven's plan! We also shared it with Gloria and her
granddaughters. Our last stop was with at the Endsley's! We are doing
the new member lessons with them as well! They are such a fun family!

Saturday we found out about Transfers! Sister Pence is leaving and I
am staying here! Sister Swerdfiguer is going to be my new companion.
She's been out about a year and I have talked to her a few times, but
don't know her super well! I had a feeling she was going to be my
companion! I know this will be a great transfer! I can't believe it is
my last one! We went to the adult session of stake conference. It was
awesome! I sat right next to Jason and Amanda, my brother-inlaw and
sister! They are so great! The Conference was all about having joy!
The stake created this video and shared it with us! Here is the link
https://m.youtube.com/watch?sns=fb&v=wZXIm5003vo  It is a lot of fun!
I know that Our Heavenly Father wants us to have joy here!! We can
choose to be happy and find joy in the journey!

Sunday was the general session of stake conference. It was really
great as well! All about joy and the Book of Mormon! It really is
Another Testament of Jesus Christ! It will change your life one verse
at a time! The invited us all to read two chapters a day!! It is a joy
to read and learn about our Savior! We have gone around to say goodbye
to some of Sister Pence's favorite members! She is going to be really
missed here! I am going to miss serving with her!

I've got a lot more work to do here! I am so excited to see what
miracles are in store this next week! I hope you all will have many
opportunities to study and learn from the teachings of the Savior!
Find joy this week! Know that you are loved and prayed for!

Love,
Sister Davis

September 8 2014

Hello!

Wow! What a week it has been! I've been here in North for 5 weeks and
most days it feels like I just got here! It's hard to believe how fast
the time is going!

Monday we met with Robert! We have a lot to teach him to help him
prepare for his Baptism! He is finally reading and praying
consistently and it is making all the difference in the world. It's
great to see his growth in the gospel in only a couple of weeks. We
also met Janise, who was Baptized two weeks ago, and with her sister
Olivia, who is interested in learning about the gospel! We talked to
them about prayer. Janise is having a huge impact on her family and
their desire to learn about Christ's restored gospel!

Tuesday we had the hardest time finding a member to come with us to
Robert's lesson. Sister Anderson, the Relief Society President, was
able to make it, because her work caught on fire and they couldn't go
in. It sure was a tender mercy for us, but quite a problem for the
local YMCA. We also met with Sister Mundy! I just adore her. She has
been reading and studying about the gospel trying to grasp on to as
much light as she can. She compares herself to us a lot and wants to
know as much as we do. I was able to explain to her that personally I
didn't know much about the scriptures and where things were in the
verses before my mission. It was through great study and prayer and
that she can reach the same point as she is consistent. Later on we
had Brother Fontano, one of our ward mission leaders, out with us and
we ran into two guys, Chief and John. It was a blessing to be able to
talk to them and testify of truth! We are going to try and work with
them  this next week! They have met with missionaries in the past and
we are hoping to rekindle the good feelings they had before.

Wednesday we had Missionary Leadership Council. All of the Zone
Leaders and Sister training Leaders were there. We had a great
discussion on needs of the mission and how to better apply the
doctrine of Christ in all our teaching. It was great! I love seeing
all of my old friends from other areas. Sister Pence and I applied
what we had learned in the meeting to a couple of lessons we had later
that day. We focused on bring Baptism up in the first few moments of
talking with our investigators and those that we meet. It has changed
the way we interact with others and helps them understand our purpose!

Thursday we had exchanges with the Spanish Sisters in our Zone. Sister
Hepworth has been out a month. It was her first exchange and she
served with me in our area. It was great! She was very shy, but bore a
powerful testimony. We met with Robert and a lady named Terry. Terry
just moved into the same place as Robert and has a desire to learn
about the gospel. We talked to them about 1 Nephi 8. They really
connected to it! Terry feels like she has been led by the Spirit to
meet with us and wants to learn all she can. We also met with our
investigator Angel, whom we haven't seen in awhile. We taught her the
first lesson and soft set her for Baptism. She wants to come to church
this Sunday! We also met with the Johns, who are recent converts that
just moved into our ward. They have a nonmember brother living with
them named Aaron. He is from Friendswood, TX! We hit it off right
away, because we are both from Houston! I love meeting people who are
from Houston! It makes me feel right at home! Aaron said he would be
interested in learning more and that he would come to church with his
family on Sunday! What a blessing! Exchanges are always full of
miracles!

Friday Sister Pence and I trained at our Zone Training Meeting. We
talked about making Baptism our Vision and compared it to Hymn 335
Brightly Beams Our Father's Mercy.

1. Brightly beams our Father's mercy (The Atonement. It can only be
accessed by Baptism)
From his lighthouse evermore,
But to us he gives the keeping (missionaries)
Of the lights along the shore.

(Chorus)
Let the lower lights be burning;
Send a gleam across the wave.
Some poor fainting, struggling seaman (our investigators)
You may rescue, you may save.

2. Dark the night of sin has settled;
Loud the angry billows roar.
Eager eyes are watching, longing, (our investigators)
For the lights along the shore.

3. Trim your feeble lamp, my brother; (we must be prepared to share)
Some poor sailor, tempest-tossed,
Trying now to make the harbor,
In the darkness may be lost.

We had a lot of discussion and it was powerful! We challenged them to
make Baptism the vision and focus of all they do. I know that the only
way for us to return and live with our Father in Heaven is if we
accept the Atonement. That is not possible unless we are Baptized by
someone who holds the Priesthood Authority. That Authority was loss
through the great apostasy  It was restored or brought back by our
Heavenly Father through the prophet Joseph Smith. The Authority to
Baptize is only found in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day
Saints. In order to be Baptized just like Jesus Christ we must be
Baptized by that same Authority. That is why I am here. I am here to
guide others and invite them to learn for themselves if the Authority
of God is back on the earth.

We shared this knowledge with Terry when we met with her today. She
had been Baptized before but she understands now that it has to be
done by the right Authority and so she has committed to prepare to be
Baptized in Christ's true church. She has been a lot of places and
seen a lot of things. She has come to know for herself that this is
the only place where that Authority and the fullness of the gospel
resides.

Saturday we had a wonderful lesson with Gloria and her granddaughters
we taught them of the Restoration and helped them recognize the
importance of Authority and Baptism. It was a big step for them. That
evening Robert was Baptized. I was able to be part of a miracle! Just
seconds before Robert's Baptismal Service I slammed my ring finger and
middle finger in a heavy metal door. It was the worst pain. My fingers
started to bruise, they were crooked and I thought I was going to pass
out. We went on an emergency split. I couldn't give the talk I had
prepared and I missed Robert's Baptism. It was terrible. But there was
a great miracle that occurred  Brother Naumu, the 1st counselor in the
Bishopric and the Zone Leaders came to give e a blessing in the
hallway. Brother Naumu said he had a prompting to grab more oil before
he left his house, but he ignored the prompting. The Zone Leaders
pulled out their oil to anoint me, but they had no oil either. Brother
Naumu tried his oil again. It was dry. But one drop of oil came out.
They anointed me and blessed me. My hand and fingers were healed. By
my faith and the power of the Priesthood. My hand was no longer
bruised or broken. I iced it and it was fine. It was as if I had never
been injured. I know that the Priesthood power is here! That Christ's
Authority is back on the Earth, to both baptize and preform miracles.
I know that there was no oil in that container. But just like when
when the woman fed Elijah and did as the prophet asked. Her supply of
meal and oil never diminished.

Sunday we had 7 investigators at church between the two wards we
cover. It was truly amazing! They each benefited and was uplifted by
the Spirit! After church we were able to attend a fireside in which
Alex Boye was the speaker. He sang and shared his conversion story! It
was amazing! Here is his Mormon Messagehttp://www.mormon.org/alex
Enjoy and Share!

I know that this is Christ Gospel! I love sharing it with other!

Love,
Sister Davis

September 1 2014

Hello!

I can't believe that we just finished up the last week of August! That
is just unreal! I remember this time last year I was in Robindale with
Sister Berger! Now she's home. I'm in North Las Vegas and time is just
flying by!

Well here we go, what a week it has been!

Monday, we met with Brother Garcia, he is a recent convert. We started
to teach him the new member lessons. We talked to him about the
Restoration! It was so great to hear his testimony and understanding
of the gospel. He just received the priesthood and has such a great
desire to always be worthy of it! We also taught Robert about The
Gospel of Jesus Christ! (Faith, Repentance, Baptism, The Gift of the
Holy Ghost, and Enduring to the End!) We had Brother Rodriguez, the
Elders Quorum President, come. He is a convert of about 10 years. He
joined when he was 21 here in Vegas. We had no idea, so it made the
lesson even more powerful!

Tuesday we meet with Sister Mundy again! She is truly amazing! She had
some questions about if she really had a place in the church. Many
things talked about in church are about families, spouses, things that
she feels she is lacking and therefore it doesn't apply. We shared our
testimonies with her that she does have a place and she does matter.
We shared with her that we are all apart of our Heavenly Father's
family and we have an important role to play there! We also met with
Gloria, she has been coming to church for the past month but we really
haven't had a chance to meet with her. She was completely wasted when
we came by for our appointment. But it turned out to be the biggest
blessing because she really opened up to us about her concerns and
desires. We were able to learn better how we can help her in her
journey back to her Heavenly Father.

Wednesday we met with a few members to share our 40 Day Fast Lesson.
It was amazing! The families are really seeing miracles in their own
lives as the participate in the Fast. We are seeing miracles as well!
I every day just gets better and better! The unity in the ward truly
is growing!!

Thursday we had our first Zone Conference with President and Sister
Snow. It was my last one as well. Sister Pence and I trained on Street
Contacting! It went great! We started by hiding candy bars around the
room and had all the missionaries go "find" them! We related the
excitement for finding candy bars to the excitement of street
contacting and spent most of the time having them role play! It went
over really well! It is always great to feel the Spirit when we have
big discussions as Zones! I love being a missionary! President Snow
let us watch the trailer for "Meet the Mormons" which is coming to
theaters October 10th. He also gave us permission to go and watch it,
if we have an investigator with us! I can't wait!!!!

Friday we had exchanges and I was serving in the North Star YSA ward
with Sister Fotheringhame. It was really fun to teach YSA kids again!
I miss it! They are so down to earth and you can really be yourself
with them! We found new investigators for them and were able to really
build their area in only one day! Miracles!

Saturday we went to the Temple with Janise who was Baptized last week.
She was able to do Baptisms for the dead. The Spirit was so strong and
it was amazing to see the light she has in her eyes. Janise's mom and
siblings now want to learn about the gospel, because they see the
change in her! What a blessing that is! Janise is influencing and
changing many many lives!!

Sunday was full of 7 hours of church. Sister Pence and I taught one of
the Gospel Principle class about Missionary Work! That's our favorite!
We also had a combined 3rd hour lesson with Bishop Montandon. He
talked about "What are we preparing for?" Just think about that
question. It is deep!

I am so grateful to be a missionary! I can't believe the time is
drawing near, when I won't be able to do this everyday! But I am
staying strong and working hard! I know that Jesus Christ is our
Savior and that He loves us! That love keeps me going each and every
day!

Love,
Sister Davis
