HAPPY THANKSGIVING WEEK!
Thank you for all the Birthday emails! Can't believe I'll be 20 on Friday! Woah!
This week has been crazy! It was the last week of the transfer!! Yes, I've been in Quail Ridge for 6 weeks! We just received our Transfer 'Doctrine' yesterday! I will be staying here in Quail Ridge, but Sister Nilson is being transferred! My new companion is Sister Tucker! I don't know anything really about her other than she went to BYU Hawaii and knows Megan and Emily Waddel! Crazy! I meet up with her tomorrow!!! So I'll tell y'all all about her next week!
SO.. This week... I lost my planner... this is the second time this transfer... so I really don't remember what I did this week... And I don't have anything written down!
So for this email I would simply like to share with you some thoughts..
I know that Jesus Christ is my Savior! He is my big brother and my best friend! He teaches me how to be better and is so patient with me. I make so many mistakes every single day, yet he carefully guides me through the storms I face. He is my greatest supporter. He knows me better than I know myself. He knows who I can become! Below I have included two different hymns.. They take the words out of my mouth...
1. I stand all amazed at the love Jesus offers me,
Confused at the grace that so fully he proffers me.
I tremble to know that for me he was crucified,
That for me, a sinner, he suffered, he bled and died.
(Chorus)
Oh, it is wonderful that he should care for me
Enough to die for me!
Oh, it is wonderful, wonderful to me!
2. I marvel that he would descend from his throne divine
To rescue a soul so rebellious and proud as mine,
That he should extend his great love unto such as I,
Sufficient to own, to redeem, and to justify.
3. I think of his hands pierced and bleeding to pay the debt!
Such mercy, such love and devotion can I forget?
No, no, I will praise and adore at the mercy seat,
Until at the glorified throne I kneel at his feet.
1. Be still, my soul: The Lord is on thy side;
With patience bear thy cross of grief or pain.
Leave to thy God to order and provide;
In ev'ry change he faithful will remain.
Be still, my soul: Thy best, thy heav'nly Friend
Thru thorny ways leads to a joyful end.
2. Be still, my soul: Thy God doth undertake
To guide the future as he has the past.
Thy hope, thy confidence let nothing shake;
All now mysterious shall be bright at last.
Be still, my soul: The waves and winds still know
His voice who ruled them while he dwelt below.
3. Be still, my soul: The hour is hast'ning on
When we shall be forever with the Lord,
When disappointment, grief, and fear are gone,
Sorrow forgot, love's purest joys restored.
Be still, my soul: When change and tears are past,
All safe and blessed we shall meet at last.
I am so grateful for this gospel! And so grateful to have the opportunity to serve my Savior and my Heavenly Father! Life is good! God is good!
Have an amazing week! Be safe! Choose The Right! ( CTR )

Sister Davis

Happy Monday!

Don't you just LOVE Mondays! I do!!!

Things are great in Vegas Baby! This week has been a roller coaster! So lets just start with last Monday....
We had a lesson with Barbara - who came to the Gladys Knight Fireside - we taught the Restoration and it was amazing!! She rally wants to make changes in her life so that she can know her Savior more. And she is excited to read The Book of Mormon!
It was a great lesson!
Tuesday morning at 6:35am.... Sister Nilson and I were at the church playing basketball with our Zone and what does she do... she goes and tares her ligament!! Another Sister and I had to carry her off the court and into the car... Her ankle swelled up like a balloon!!! Just a couple hours later we had interviews with our Mission President. Interviews were amazing, but boy having a companion with a broken leg is quite an adventure!!!
On Wednesday morning we went to the Temple! I love the Temple! We only can go ever y 3 months, so it is such a treat! It's amazing how you can just leave the world behind when you go to the Temple! What a blessing!
After the Temple we went to the Doctor for Sister Nilson's ankle... They did some X Rays and then put a big green cast on her ankle! So crazy! She has crutches and it's just a pain for her.
Thursday was our weekly District Meeting and Elder Johnson asked me to do a training on finding people.. Lots of people have given training to the missionaries on finding and I didn't want to do the same ol' same ol' stuff... So my training was called "ASK and Ye Shall Find" I had everyone find a scripture that they love about prayer... They each shared their scripture and why they choose it! It was really powerful and everyone likes to hear the sound of their own voice... So it was a hit! Later on that day we taught this lady Clara - she is in her 80's and hasn't been active in the church since her husband passed away 15+ years ago... We are practicing the lessons on her.. We taught the Restoration and she shared her experience visiting the sacred grove many, many, many years ago... She cried! And kept trying to shake off and avoid the Spirit.. But she felt it! She felt it!
FRIDAYYYYYYYYY!! November 15, 2013 - Carlos Monsalve was baptized! It was an amazing baptism! Carlos looked so sharp in his suit! Sister Berger talked on Baptism and I spoke on The Gift of the Holy Ghost! Oh it was awesome! I shared Sister Berger and I's experience on how we followed the promptings of the Spirit and ended up on Carlos' front doorstep. I also shared 3 Nephi 19:9&20. This is when Christ is in the Americas and he tells his 12 disciples that they can have anything they desire. "And they did pray for that which they most desired; and they desired that the aHoly Ghostshould be given unto them." The next few verses describe how they were baptized by the proper authority. Christ then prays to our Heavenly Father and says, "Father, I thank thee that thou hast given the Holy Ghost unto these whom I have achosen; and it is because of their belief in me that I have chosen them out of the world." I bore testimony that Carlos was chosen to receive the gospel at this time and to share his knowledge with others. Bishop Tuke baptized Carlos and when he came up out of the water, Carlos just stood in the water and prayed.. It was so powerful! I am so humbled that Heavenly Father would allow me, someone so imperfect to share this message which is so perfect! Carlos bore his testimony after he was baptized. He spoke of how great it feels to be clean from all your sins. He is amazing! He signed the inside of my scriptures! And I gave him a drawing of the Tree of Life! It looked pretty cool! Well just when I thought my Friday night couldn't really get any better.... Something pretty cool happened! - We had a lesson with JD and Lily (who is less active, coming back!) We were at a members home! We had everyone write down a question on a note card.. No one shared their questions.. Then we asked Lily where she was reading in The Book of Mormon.. She was on 1 Nephi 10:11.. So we told everyone we would starting reading verse by verse and by the end of our lesson all of our questions would be answered through the Spirit and The Book of Mormon! We read and read and ended on 1 Nephi 11:2! Out of 6 of us that were there ALL 6 of us received an answer to our questions!!! The Spirit was so strong! And I know that our prayers were answered! We all discovered what is hold JD back... So we were able to help him begin to work through his concerns. It was such a great Friday!!!!
Saturday was really great also! We went to visit a less active member, Nubia.. She has 3 kids, and her husband Valentine is not a member. We shared a Mormon Message with them! Valentine tries to play the "I'm too cool for this" card... He asks like he's in Highschool.. But he really enjoyed the Mormon Messages! So that was like at 11:30am... Fast Forward... We were walking back to our car after a lesson/dinner in their same apartment complex... Valentine was pulling out right as we were walking to our car.. He rolled his window down and invited us to come have dinner with his family... We told him we would.... He started to drive away and then he backed up his car, jumped out and said "I forgot something.. I'll let y'all in." So he walked us to his door and let us inside, he told us he was going to get drinks and asked us what we wanted to drink.. The crazy thing is.. he didn't forget anything... He just wanted to make sure we got to his apartment door safe. They have a son Ethan, who is 6 years old. I gave him his own Book of Mormon, he was SO excited! He grabbed a red marker and asked if I would read it with him so he could marks his favorite parts just like me!! We read and then ate dinner with them.. Valentine said he wouldn't come to church, but that we could bring the church to him.. So we are going to start teaching him!! He's a good guy, just got into a lot of trouble growing up in Cali. Which is the reason they moved to Vegas this past Summer. Good things to come with this family!
Dinner with Nubia and Valentine was our 2nd dinner that night... We also ate with Stephanie and Tony... They are so great! And Stephanie's biggest concern is about "authority" She doesn't understand why God would only give the authority to the LDS church. We are trying to help her understand that any worthy man can hold the priesthood authority, but that God is a God of order. That the authority can only be found in the church that has the fulness of the gospel. She is reading The Book of Mormon and really searching, I know Heavenly Father will answer her!
Yesterday was also a great day! It was my 7 month mark... CRAZY! 7 months already??!! That is hard to believe! I was able to go to the Why I Believe Fireside, music and testimonies! As I was sitting waiting for it to began.. my sister Amanda touches my arm and says "Hey Sister Davis!" Needless to say I was SO thrilled to see her!!! She's so amazing and even brought me cookies! I was able to introduce her to Carlos, and ask Carlos how is Confirmation went! He was sad I couldn't be there, but he says he feels so good! Aww I just love him! And Amanda! What a great way to end a great week!!!!

I am so grateful for all the love that our Heavenly Father has for us! He truly is waiting to bless us! We just need to ASK! I know that as we strive to increase our Faith in Jesus Christ, we are blessed more than we can imagine!
I love this work! I love The Lord! I love and miss y'all!!!
Love,
Sister Davis

November 11 2013

Hello! Hello! To my favorite people!!

I have to tell you that I thought that this week couldn't have gotten better... BUT... I was right... haha

This week was still really awesome though! Many miracles.. But I have to say most of them didn't occur until this past weekend! But of course I will start with last Monday!

Let me just say that Mondays in this area is awesome, because I get to play basketball with some of the other missionaries... Let's just say I pretty much have mastered the 3 point shot!! Yea, it is awesome! Gotta love church ball! Later on we had a lesson with Brother and Sister Hymas! It was awesome! We taught the Restoration, and focused on that God's Authority is back on the Earth! What a Blessing that is! Brother Hymas has had many experiences with the Priesthood power in his life and with the health problem he has had.. It was great and we are going to teach them tonight... So tune in next week for a report on that lesson!

On Tuesday night we had a lesson with JD and Lily again! We went through and explained why God has given us the Book or Mormon, What the Book of Mormon says about the Bible, what the Bible says about the Book of Mormon, how they both testify of Jesus Christ, and finally how we can know that they both are the word of God! We explained all of these thoughts but just using the scriptures. It was amazing! And he really learned a lot about the relationship between these two books of scriptures!

Then Wednesday we were able to teach Tony and Stephanie, who are from Hawaii! They are awesome! We basically used some of the same scriptures that we used to teach JD. She really loves seeing the Bible and the Book of Mormon work together!!! We also taught them on Saturday, and prior to that lesson I had been praying about what to share with them.. Mosiah 24 came to my mind, but I wasn't sure why or what that chapter was even about... However, it turned out to be perfect! Stephanie really wants to know that truth and has be praying to know if the Book of Mormon is true! She has recognized her answer yet, but I know it will come! Tony shared an amazing experience about how he really does know that God is there and the church is the true church.. It brought him to tears for the remained of that lesson! The Spirit really is the greatest teacher.

Thursday was a great day!! We were able to go to The Saints Unified Voices directed by Gladys Knight! It was powerful! Testimony and Music! I loved it! Sister Gladys Knight and her husband, shared their conversion story and how the Restored Gospel has blessed their lives. Something I love that her husband, Brother McDowell, said was that to use miracles are just that.. they are miracles.. But to God they are just His everyday life! I thought that was pretty neat! Brother McDowell also said this about Joseph Smith.. "God, why'd it have to be a white boy? And I really asked God that! And you know what He told me... "If you are a Christan, like you say you are, then he was not no white boy, he is your brother!"" WOW! Powerful! - There were three people from our congregation who sang in the SUV Choir! They were amazing! And the Spirit was so strong! Our investigator, Barbara, went on Wednesday nightwith a member in our ward, and she told us that when she was there she felt very warm and thought that she was hot because of the temperature, but then realized that she was feeling the Spirit! We will be teaching her today! And she is excited to read the Book of Mormon! - Oh and a side note about the Gladys Knight Fireside... It was suppose to start at 8:30pm... But it didn't begin until 9pm and we didn't get home until MIDNIGHT! I was so tired! It was a long night! But so worth it!!!

So then on Friday - we had dinner with a less active in our ward! It was great! You gotta love Little Cesar's! It's the same $5 taste everywhere you go! Sister Rojas is a cop and boy is that a hard life style and career. She shared with us some of the trials she faces and it really does amaze me! We are very sheltered as missionaries. But that is a blessing!

Okay - so Saturday, I told you already about our awesome lesson with Tony and Stephanie.. So I am just going to skip to Sunday!

Yesterday was AWESOME!!! Church was amazing and Sister Nilson and I taught about Missionary Work in Sunday school it was really good! But the best things happened after church...

We had a lesson with this girl Bree and her finance James! They are both really young, wild, and free! We talked to them about prayer and having us teach them about the Restored Gospel.. They want to schedule for us to come back 2-3 times a week at specific times so that they can both learn and know for themselves.

Then we went to meet Jason's, our investigator's, kids! They are in foster care and have some health defects. They are precious! We were able to talk to Jason's girlfriend for the first time and answered some of her questions! We set up a time to teach her the Restoration and she excited to learn about what Jason has come to know for himself!

THREE NEW INVESTIGATORS!!! YAY!!!!!

Also, coolest thing! We went to eat at the Klabacka's house. They are this awesome family in the ward, who's son is serving in Colorado! Brother K's mom was over forSunday dinner! She is Catholic to the bone! I really felt like I needed to ask her if she had ever learned about the church... So I did! And she said no, but she knows ALLLL about the church! Brother K said that I was the first one to EVER ask her that.. She wasn't interested in learning, but I again felt like for our "spiritual thought" we should share the message of the Restoration! So we did!!! It was awesome! The spirit was so strong and Brother K was able to share his conversion and experience with the gospel! Later that night Brother K called us and thanked us for sharing the Restoration with his mother. He told us he will invite us over again to have us teach his mother more very soon! I am so excited! I know that the Spirit prompted me to ask her and share the Restoration with her! I am so grateful that I followed that prompting! What a blessing!!!!!

I love this Gospel! I am so grateful that I have this opportunity to share what I know with others! The most important thing to know is that I know this is true! Whether other people believe it or not.. I know it is true! I will treasure that knowledge forever! Jesus Christ is our Savior! His power and authority was lost after his original twelve apostles were killed, but He brought it back through a prophet just as in times before! I am so grateful to share this precious truth with others!

I hope this all makes since because I didn't proof read it! - LOVE & MISS Y'ALL!!!

Love,
Sister Davis

November 04 2013

Hello! Hello! Hello!

What a week of blessings and miracles! I wish I could just call each one of you and tell you about all the hearts that have been softened.. Because trying to email does not explain it well enough!

I'll just go day by day in this letter... you might want to grab a snack, because this is a long letter!

Last Monday night was the Quail Ridge Ward Trunk or Treat! There were so many people here! Lots of unfamiliar faces.. But every one is still kind of unfamiliar to me! Our investigator Susie was there, with her boyfriend and little girl, SoSo.. They had a blast!

On Tuesday our day was jammed packed! We met our next door neighbor, Norma, who is a "Do Not Contact" She invited us in and we visited with her for a little while.. She is in her 80's and says she has "been there done that" with regards to the whole "church" thing. That is what we are finding with many of the people who are on the "Do Not Contact" list.. they are old and tired.. It makes me realize how important it is to Endure to the End! Norma said we could come back to visit with her as long as we don't try to get her to come to church... I have hope for her! She just needs to know she is loved and missed,

Later we had a lesson with Susie.. we read in The Book of Mormon with her and she loves it! She was analyzing every verse and teaching us! The one concern she brought up was about marriage.. She is living with her boyfriend, Jay.. And she knows she will either have to move out or marry him.. She has no way to support herself if she moves out and she does not believe in marriage. She thinks it is just a piece of paper.. She's never seen a marriage work.. And from the World's perspective it is just a piece of paper.. But it is so much more! We told her our next lesson would be about the Family!

Tuesday night, we went to the Hymas' home.. Sister Hymas was inactive for a long long time, but is totally reactivated and has gone to the temple.. Brother Hymas on the other hand is very very inactive! He is a sweet old grump! We drop by there house every week or so for a couple of minutes, but this time was a game changer! We asked them if we could practice the lessons on them.. Sister Hymas let her husband decided.. He paused a moment.. and then very quietly said.. yes.. HE SAID YES!!! So we are going tonight to teach him!!! Missionaries have been working on him for years and years, and finally he is willing to hear a message from us! He always calls me "sweetheart" and gives me a good handshake! He's a sweet old grump, like I said!

On Wednesday, lots of good happened but the biggest highlight is when we went to teach Brother and Sister Honeycutt.. They are good active members, and we asked them if we could practice on them. Sister Honeycutt's son has just been deployed. On Wednesday was the day he left and Wednesday was the day we shared and reminded them of the gospel. She later told us that we were an answer to her prayers and that she was having a really hard day.. We needed to be there!

This past Thrusday we were able to meet and share a message with another inactive member that lives around the corner from us. It really amazes me how open people are to the missionaries. We had never met this lady before, but she told us all the things she has been and is struggling with. We were able to bring peace to her heart. I am so grateful for this calling.

Also, we met with Susan (different from Susie). Susan is Catholic and her mother was a Jew. She is a talker! We left her a pamphlet and told her to read it and call us back! Well later that night she called and asked us where our church was and at what time on Sunday.. She said she really hit it off with the member we brought and she would like to come to church! WHAT A BLESSING! I did not see that one coming!!!

So since it was Halloween, all the missionaries in the Las Vegas Valley went to the Mission Office! We watched Ephrim's Rescue! Okay - stop reading this letter and go and buy Ephrim's Rescue! It is SO good!!!! I am so grateful for all the pioneers! They sacrificed so much for all of us! I love this gospel so much!

On Friday, Now this is where it really gets crazy!!!

We went to visit a less active, Sister Rojas, and her nonmember boyfriend, Tommy, was with her. We got to know her and asked if we could teach her the lessons.. She leaned over to Tommy and asked if he'd like to listen to them.. And he said YES!!!!!! Yay!!!
THEN - We had a lesson with Susie, the one against marriage, and her boyfriend, Jay, and Jay's friend Art. Now if I had to describe Jay and Art to you I would say they are weather beaten, greasy car guys. They are rough around all the edges. But still very nice to us. The lesson was at the Barlow's house (the family with 15 kids) and we also had Brother Morris, our ward mission leader there. We began by reading The Family -  A Proclamation to the World. Here is a link to the Proclamation -  http://www.lds.org/topics/family-proclamation READ IT! So we were going paragraph by paragraph.. And at first Jay was just trying to fight with us and put our message down. I don't blame him, I mean here we are, two 19 year old girls, telling these 40+ year old guy the way they are living their life is not pleasing to our Heavenly Father. But we kept going and we literally saw all three of there hearts go from being hard to softened by the end of our lesson. Art said the closing prayer and it was powerful. Art was crying. Jay was holding back tears. Susie was just soaking in the Spirit. It was amazing. One of the most powerful spiritual experiences I have ever witnessed or been apart of. Words cannot describe it.

Later on we had another amazing spiritual experience. Lily is less active, and we are starting to reactivate her. Her husband is not a member, his name is JD. We were able to have a lesson with them in the Day's home, an awesome family in our ward. We taught them the Restoration, which they were taught a couple months ago. However this time, we showed JD point by point that there really was a need for a Restoration, and we did that by reading scriptures from the Bible. It was powerful and JD really opened up. I am so grateful for the Spirit that guides and directs us!

Then on Saturday we had an awesome lesson with this less active, Mark, and his girlfriend Debra. He had told us earlier that his favorite hymn was "I Need Thee Every Hour" http://www.lds.org/music/library/hymns/i-need-thee-every-hour?lang=eng Sister Nilson and I sang this song for him. Both Mark and Debra were in tears. The Spirit was so strong. It truly was amazing!

Yesterday was great also, I love the first Sunday of every month, because we are able to hear the testimonies of those around us in Sacrament Meeting. A few of the ladies talked about the impact they have seen in their families, because we are practicing the lessons on them. Sister Hymas even bore her testimony about her husband telling us we could teach him. It was amazing! JD, Lily, and AJ, their son, came to church! Lily even bore her testimony! Aww it was amazing!!

We got to see JD later on and read the introduction for The Book of Mormon! He is really excited to read more! Then, we went to Jason's, another investigator who is trying and not really succeeding at quitting smoking. But we gave him a "quit smoking program" and went there with two members. And after we committed Jason to do this program we all knelt and each said a prayer for Jason. Afterwards he gave away his cigarettes! And went into his fridge and poured all of his alcohol down the drain. It was awesome! I was so proud of him!!!

Well this is officially my longest letter ever.. But it sure was a week of blessings and miracles!!! I know that this week will be just as great!!!

Oh I also have to tell you that THIS FRIDAY November 8, 2013 - Carlos Monsalve - an investigator I taught in Robindale is getting baptized! The baptism will be a 6pm at 7670 Bruce St. The cross streets are Robindale and Bruce.. or Robindale and Spencer, You all are invited to come!!!!! And those of you who are close by I sure hope you do come!
